A Note on Publishing through Createspace

Createspace offers matte finishes for books, yet I’ve noticed that most indies and small presses go with glossy. Why is this? If you pick up trade paperbacks from the big dogs (King, Palahniuk, Tartt, and many more) their finishes are almost always matte. Also, choosing matte negates the possibility that the lamination will separate from the cover, making your book seem as if it’s shedding skin, which is a huge problem for readers in humid regions.. Food for thought.

Yeah, CS has only offered matte covers for a handful of months now. I’ve tried both, prefer the matte. But I guess glossy might appeal to some because it’s got that mass pb feel to it.
